During the 1980s, I liked to visit the old Postcafé coffee house in Essen. I always enjoyed watching and sketching the customers.
The atmosphere at this coffee house was unique. It was a place where the most different characters met - old and young, rich and poor, successful and unsuccessful; a cross section of Essen's population.
On the basis of these sketches, I created a series of sugar-lift etchings that reflect the personalities of the customers.
